Second Step Unit 1 Lesson 1

September19

Lesson 1: The Right Goal for Me

Summary

In this week’s lesson, your child will learn how to set a goal that’s right for them. A goal that’s right for someone is specific, challenging, doable, and motivating.

Try This at Home

Ask your child what their goal is and how they know it’s right for them. Encourage them to describe why it’s motivating to them. Talk to your child about a goal you reached in the past and why you chose that goal.

A Note from Ms. Bookey

May18

Greetings 5th Grade Families,

Our 5th grade team has some great news to share.

We have been given new guidance regarding the requirements for outside events and our Safety and Health team has revised the building protocols accordingly.

This means we can open our 5th grade recognition to more people.  We will still hold the event outside and do have a limited number of chairs available. If your family is bringing more than 2 people to celebrate your child, we ask that you bring chairs for the additional attendees. There will also be plenty of standing room available for those that prefer that option.

Masks will be optional, and we encourage each of you to social distance in a way that is comfortable for you.

An invitation will be coming home soon!

Warmly,

Terri Bookey

Smarter Balanced Testing Begins Tomorrow…

May16

Dear Parents,

We will begin our Smarter Balanced Testing with Math CAT (computer adaptive test) on Tuesday, May 17.
*Please make sure that your student gets a good night sleep, has a healthy breakfast, and brings a water bottle so they can hydrate their brain throughout the test.
**It is vitally important that your student charges their device tonight and brings their device tomorrow.  We do not have multiple chargers for anyone who does not get their device fully charged and we need to have the device fully charged for testing.

Wednesday, May 18, we will do the Math Performance Task test.

Tuesday, May 24, we will take the ELA CAT test.

Wednesday, May 25, we will take the ELA Performance Task Part 1 Test.

Thursday, May 26, we will take the ELA Performance Task Part 2 Test.

Wednesday, June 1, we will take the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS).

Fully charged devices must be as school these days along with headphones.  Thank you for your help with these matters.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Panesko
